A (Slightly) Calmer Voting Season

Hey, guys! Like everyone else, I'm glued to my phone waiting for those election results. The Oregon races this year are definitely super intense! Apparently, half the registered voters in Oregon have already sent in their ballots. Which, compared to the crazy surge of early voting in 2020, means it's way calmer this year.

Don't get me wrong, it's good to be back to a "normal" kinda thing - I was afraid I'd be glued to the TV for another week! However, it also means those results might take a bit longer to come in. And let's be honest, I'm totally not used to waiting patiently.

Waiting for the Results: Ranked-Choice Voting & Counting Delays

But, hey, we gotta give those election officials some slack, you know? They've gotta tally all those votes! I did some research, and turns out there are some wild cards, like this new ranked-choice voting system that Portland adopted. Talk about a learning curve! I actually had to read like, five articles on the whole thing before I kinda got it.

The good news? It's looking like we're going to need way more than one night for all the counting. This ain't your usual quick "we-got-a-winner" scenario. Remember in 2020 when the Associated Press didn't declare a presidential winner until, like, Saturday? Ugh, that was painful! And get this: they're saying this year might be even more of a waiting game. Seriously, maybe I should stock up on snacks.

Oregon Votes: Big Races to Watch

What's really crazy? Portland's got this big ol' election happening today. It's a historical moment because they're electing a new mayor and those City Council members. That's huge, you guys! And you know what, Oregon voters aren't messing around. They're gonna select a new Secretary of State, Attorney General, and State Treasurer.

Speaking of the House and Senate, there are some seriously expensive fights going down in the races for state representatives and senators. Apparently, it's like a battleground right now! Those Democrats are pushing hard to gain enough seats for a "supermajority." Can you believe they can literally raise taxes with no opposition from Republicans?! Wild.
